The Community Support Worker will play a key role in providing support to deaf, deafened, deafblind and hard of hearing people including children and young people.
You will organise and run activities to promote greater participation within and outwith our community. You will provide support in the form of engagement with those that interact with us through schools, community groups and other relevant third sector organisations. You will be a positive role model to enable individuals to achieve their goals. There are numerous services and projects that Wakefield and District Society for Deaf People deliver and you will be expected to support this work supporting our overall objectives making a difference to our community.
As our Community Support Worker (Activities), you will provide a holistic approach to providing the delivery of social activities whilst also promoting our services. You will work with schools, community groups and other organisations in the community. Wakefield and District Society for Deaf People adopt a person-centred approach with our work and this is critical to the work they deliver.
You will support individuals in meeting their social needs by organising and coordinating activities to improve confidence and wellbeing whilst at the same time reducing isolation. You will also make referrals within our organisation for the relevant support if necessary.
You will inspire, motivate and be passionate about sharing your own and others personal experiences of deafness both positive and negative to achieve your goals. You will provide deaf representation at network events, to assist social club volunteers with social activities as and when required, to deliver ad-hoc work elsewhere, monitor the outcomes of this work and the individuals associated to our organisation.
You will be expected to work some evenings and weekends as part of this role.
