What the fund is about: Wakefield Council’s Wellbeing team deliver a referral service that support families to make dietary and lifestyle changes to improve their overall health and wellbeing. What the fund is about: One £80,000 grant for a VCSE organisation/partnership to support people with low level mental health. Provision of low level non-clinical advice and guidance in the form of group support sessions and activities. What the fund is about: A collaboration between Prosper and Nova, aimed at empowering local VCSE organisations through core funding. The fund offered core and project funding with minimal restrictions, enabling organisations to access the support they needed. Grants of £500 to £20,000 awarded to VCSE organisations in Wakefield District to support core costs, continue existing projects and assist with a new project.

What the fund is about: Community solutions that help people to access mental health support in the community as early as possible, with funding of £1,000 to £10,000 available for suitable projects. The Community Mental Health Provision Fund aims to encourage self-management and adopt a person-centred approach to reduce the need for statutory service involvement or where a mental health crisis does occur, provide an alternative to statutory services. What the fund is about: Run in partnership with Nova and MenoHealth, the project addresses access to science-backed information, enables peer support, and ensures vital district-wide menopause help for local women. An opportunity for 10 VCSE organisations to upskill a member of staff with MenoHealth to deliver science-backed menopause support sessions to local women. Involvement in a menopause network across Wakefield District, co-ordinated by Nova, providing a space to share best practice, find peer support and express ideas.

What the fund is about: A 2-year pilot project aimed at providing stability for VCSE organisations, enabling them to build their own infrastructure, make longer-term plans and develop more sustainable practices. The meeting is a friendly and welcoming peer space, run by the sector for the sector. The network shares best practice, provides information, and hosts practical workshops around all things volunteering –such as volunteer policies, management and practice.

Community Anchor Network (CAN) aims to enable community-based organisations to be the best they can at delivering social change in the Wakefield District.
Community Anchors are trusted organisations that meet the need of their local community, working for local residents and particularly those affected by health inequalities. Anchors deliver services and also provide a host base for other local groups and service deliverers. Examples include food pantry access, credit union and Citizens Advice services, alongside community activities for the whole age spectrum.
The network’s informative and relaxed meetings focus on identifying partnerships with key agencies, opportunities for consortium funding bids and contracts, along with developing the network. For more details, contact our Adviser Team at info@nova-wd.org.uk.

The Third Sector Framework is a fair, open and transparent way of allocating funding to locally rooted VCSE organisations in Wakefield District. As the Framework develops and membership grows, more funders are committing money and supporting this innovative approach. We bring together funders and those involved in how funding is distributed to the VCSE sector to discuss how to work collaboratively towards: positive changes to VCSE funding; attracting greater investment into the district; increasing the capacity of VCSE organisations to demonstrate the need and impact of funding; coordinating funding to maximise its impact towards local priorities.
The forum was convened in response to a report by the National Lottery Community Fund that identified the Yorkshire and Humber region as having proportionally the lowest level of voluntary sector funding of any region in England. And within Yorkshire, funding into Wakefield District was half of the regional average.

The regional WYCAS Finance Forums provide an opportunity for people who volunteer or work in the voluntary and charitable sector to get together on a quarterly basis to discuss finance and accounting issues.
