Are you passionate about creating outstanding customer experiences? Do you want to shape the future of a community centre and make a real difference? Then this opportunity may be the perfect fit.

Lightwaves Community Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Centre Manager to lead the development and day-to-day operations of its community centre in Wakefield. This role is ideal for a candidate with the drive to promote, develop, and effectively manage a busy, well-run facility that serves the local community within a sustainable framework.

The Centre Manager will take the lead in working with staff, customers, partners, hirers, and the local community to raise awareness of the centre’s work and ensure its long-term sustainability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and motivating a team, ensuring effective staff training and performance management.
  • Managing the on-site team to ensure high-quality customer service.
  • Maintaining the highest possible standards of health and safety and customer care.
  • Developing and promoting an exciting, innovative centre programme to increase usage and profitability.
  • Overseeing the growth and development of the community centre.
  • Managing site-specific safety procedures and ensuring compliance.
  • Overseeing budgets, fundraising activities, and local events to generate income.
  • Engaging with the local community to build partnerships and raise awareness.
  • Ensuring facilities, grounds, and equipment are well-maintained and records are kept up to date.
  • Maximising participation in all services, events, and activities.

The ideal candidate will be a strong manager with excellent organisational and people management skills.

The role requires:

  • Experience in community, leisure, or sports centre management at a senior level (e.g. Senior Instructor, Deputy Manager, or Manager).
  • A recognised qualification in leisure/community centre management, sports development, or a related subject, or a minimum of three years’ relevant experience.
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • A First Aid qualification.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Lightwaves Community Trust is a charity dedicated to delivering high-quality community and sports facilities to local people. The centre also serves as a home to several not-for-profit tenant organisations and Wakefield College, which provide services, support, advice, and information to the community.

The Trust’s mission is to create a welcoming space where people can socialise, access support, and enjoy activities that contribute to their well-being
