How to make good decisions in challenging times

Increased National Insurance Contributions means charities will have to make difficult decisions. In this difficult economic climate with increased service demand, it’s especially important that Trustee Boards and teams can work together to make good decisions. This session aims to clarify rules and good practice around good decision making. It will focus particularly on Charity Commission’s guidance for Trustee Boards, with practical suggestions for implementing good decision-making in wider groups and teams too.

By the end of the event, you'll:

  • understand the rules about Trustee decision making and collective responsibility
  • be able to identify and implement the Charity Commission’s principles of good decision-making by Trustee Boards
  • have considered the additional challenges of applying these rules and principles in times of stress, uncertainty and change
  • understand what helps Boards to have constructive discussions and reach a consensus, including when there isn’t a unanimous viewpoint
  • have ideas about how to support the wellbeing of those involved in making difficult decisions.
