Youth Support Worker

The Youth Association is one of the UK’s longest-established and most innovative youth work charities. With a mission to Grow Yorkshire’s future, the organisation supports young people to build confidence, develop their aspirations, improve their wellbeing and achieve their potential.

The Youth Association is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Youth Support Worker to join its team and support the delivery of youth work projects across South and West Yorkshire.

About the Role

The Youth Support Worker will work alongside Youth Workers and Lead Youth Workers to support young people across a range of settings, including schools, community venues and detached youth work.

The role provides an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career in youth work. The successful candidate will gain practical, front-line experience while working towards a JNC-recognised Level 3 Youth Work qualification or above, with appropriate support from The Youth Association.

The role will also involve:

  • Supporting the delivery of engaging and inclusive youth work sessions.
  • Working with young people in both formal and informal settings.
  • Contributing ideas and practical support to the planning of activities.
  • Helping to create safe, positive and supportive environments for young people.
  • Building positive relationships with young people and acting as a positive role model.
  • Encouraging young people to share their views and participate in decision-making.
  • Supporting session evaluation through feedback, written notes and monitoring.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and partner organisations.
  • Attending team meetings, supervision and training.
  • Following safeguarding, health and safety and organisational policies and procedures.
  • Working flexibly, including some evenings and weekends, depending on project requirements.

About the Candidate

The Youth Association is looking for someone who is passionate about working with young people and keen to develop a career in youth work.

Applicants should have:

  • An interest in youth work and supporting young people to reach their potential.
  • Ideally, some experience of working directly with young people, although this is desirable rather than essential.
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work positively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of young people.
  • A willingness to undertake and complete a JNC-recognised Level 3 Youth Work qualification or above alongside the role.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
