Developing a Climate Risk Assessment for West Yorkshire - Community Stakeholder Webinar

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority has commissioned the development of a Climate Risk Assessment for West Yorkshire to better understand the climate risks facing the region, such as risks to buildings and communities from heat and flooding. A Climate Risk Assessment will also identify priorities for building a more climate-resilient West Yorkshire, such as areas to introduce natural flood management systems (examples include leaky dams and tree planting) to help protect neighbourhoods from flooding. The Climate Risk Assessment will provide an evidence base to support future planning, investment and decision-making across the region. It will examine how climate change could affect people, places, services, infrastructure and ecosystems over the coming decades, and identify opportunities to strengthen resilience.

Who should join this webinar: Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise organisations in West Yorkshire

The aim of this webinar: is to understand more about how climate change is impacting people, communities and places to help inform the development of the Climate Risk Assessment for West Yorkshire.  During the session we will:

• Introduce the aims and scope of the Climate Risk Assessment.
• Explain how climate projections, analysis of geographic data and stakeholder evidence will be combined.
• Invite participants to share both their own experiences of how climate change has impacted them and also of the people, communities and places they support.
• Invite participants to share any data they have on climate risks and impacts.
• Share how individuals and local groups can share their local knowledge and lived experience of climate change impacts.

People across West Yorkshire can also share their stories online about how climate impacts and extreme weather have affected them or their area. Stories can be submitted here. It only takes a few minutes, and you don't need to be a climate expert. They're interested in hearing from anyone with relevant experience or observations.
