Care Assistant (Day Care - Older People)

St Catherine's Church Centre are looking for a dedicated Care Assistant to join their Day Centre team providing high quality day care, for elderly members of the community.

The Day Care service, based at St Catherine’s Church Centre, Wakefield WF1 5HL, provides a caring, friendly service for clients requiring varying levels of support. This vacancy is for a Care Assistant to work 16 hours per week, 12noon to 4pm on Tuesdays to Fridays inclusive. The Care Assistant will need to work additional hours to cover holidays and/or sickness leave.

The St Catherine's Church CentreDay Care service is open five days per week (Monday to Friday) from 9am to 4pm. St Catherine's Church Centre have a contract with Wakefield Council for a proportion of clients who are referred and funded by Social Services. The Centre also takes private clients - self funders. The day to day running of the Day Care service is managed by the Day Centre Manager.

The aim of the Centre is to provide high quality day care, thereby assisting people to remain living at home and to provide a break for family members who otherwise provide care. The dignity and independence of Centre users and their carers is respected at all times as are other basic values of privacy, choice, individual rights and personal fulfilment.

St Catherine's Church Centre offer a range of activities to our clients, including arts and crafts, singalongs, a variety of games, as well as the occasional outing. The in-house catering team works with Carers to provide a two-course hot meal at lunchtime, as well as snacks and drinks throughout the day.

If you have experience of working within the care sector and particularly with elderly clients, and can demonstrate a commitment to the delivery of quality, person-centred care and associated services they’d love to hear from you.

St Catherine's are looking for someone with a:

  • Professional and methodical approach to work
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible approach to work
  • Understanding of Safeguarding
  • Experience of interfacing with other health care professionals, family carers and community groups
  • Commitment to supporting vulnerable Older People through high quality service provision
  • Commitment to training and development
  • The ability to develop and maintain relationships with social care professionals to increase client numbers and services to support more people in our community.
