Funding Information

The Department for Education’s (DfE) Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF), known locally in Wakefield as Happy Healthy Holidays, funds organisations to provide free nutritious meals and enriching activities during school holidays for children (Reception to Year 11) receiving income-based free school meals.

From Summer 2026, Happy Healthy Holidays funding will be distributed to the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector through the Community Investment Gateway.

What is being funded?

Happy Healthy Holidays aims to keep children and young people active during the school holidays by providing free activities and healthy food.

Key requirements of Happy Healthy Holidays programmes:

  • Physical and enriching activity – at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day alongside enriching sessions such as arts and crafts, music, drama, STEM activities or themed workshops.
  • Nutritional education offering information about healthy lifestyles and exercise. This should be delivered in fun, practical ways, such as preparing healthy snacks, making fruit kebabs or simple cooking.
  • Knowledge of local support services and confidence in directing families to the right help.
  • Inclusive and accessible – providers should plan how they will accommodate children and young people with SEND or additional needs.

Applications for this round will be collecting details for your Summer and Winter 2026 offer.

Who can apply for the funding?

The Community Investment Gateway welcomes applications from VCSE organsations locally-rooted in Wakefield District.

The funding is for members of the Community Investment Gateway (any tier). If your organisation is not a member, get in touch with gateway@nova-wd.org.uk to find out how to join.
