Information about

Training: Encouraging Vaccination Uptake

The training is focused on giving you the skills to help people in your community make informed choices about vaccines.

With your strong local relationships and community knowledge, VCSE organisations can make a difference in addressing vaccine hesitancy within vulnerable and deprived communities who may be affected by outbreaks of preventable diseases.

Vaccine hesitancy isn't the same as being anti-vaccine. It exists on a spectrum from people who are uncertain or delaying vaccines, to those who only accept some vaccines, to those who refuse all.

Course content

This course will help you understand:

  • Why people hesitate or refuse vaccines
  • How beliefs, culture, misinformation, and trust play into decision-making

This course will cover:

  • How to communicate clearly and empathetically with different audiences
  • How to encourage behaviour change as it relates to vaccination
  • How to build trust in science and public institutions
  • How to counter misinformation effectively (especially on social media)

Suitable for

The training is suitable for staff or volunteers from VCSE organisations working in Wakefield District, who are regularly talking to people as part of their role. This covers all ages - children, families and older people.

Qualification

You’ll also have the option to complete a Level 2 Qualification worth £280 - free of charge.

There is a multiple choice assessment to complete for the qualification, and support is available to help you to complete this. Anyone who takes part in the course will have access to an online toolkit, which includes a range of resources to encourage vaccine uptake.

Next steps

There is a short expression of interest form to complete by Wednesday 6 May.

We're working with Wakefield Council and Conexus Healthcare to bring you this training, and the form will allow us to make sure there's a fair distribution of places. Conexus will be in touch by 15 May to confirm places, and if you have any questions about the training in the meantime, please contact wyicb-wak.conexusevents@nhs.net
