In your role, you see how decisions affect our local communities. We want to give you the opportunity to be part of these decisions, using your understanding of the needs and views of communities to make positive change.
Supported by the Local Authority and Health and Care Partnership, Nova is currently recruiting for five opportunities available as part of VCSE Voices. This project sees leaders from the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector attend strategic, decision-making meetings across Wakefield District.
We need your help to advocate for our sector!
The Wakefield Learning Disability and Autism Partnership Board is responsible for improving health and social care services for adults and young people aged 16-17 with learning disabilities and/or autism – and their families and carers.
Bringing together service users and carers, officers from Wakefield Council, Health and other organisations, the board influences and oversees decision making, ensuring services are planned and developed so that they meet local needs.
The VCSE Advocate will attend board meetings and champion the sector. They will provide knowledge and insight about the needs of VCSE groups and the diverse communities they serve, sharing information from and to the sector.
We’re looking for a leader from the VCSE sector who can communicate effectively and use their knowledge to influence decision making. You do not have to be a CEO to apply for this role, you could be a volunteer, board member, or work in front-line delivery. We encourage people with different leadership experience to apply, and this is a brilliant opportunity to further develop leadership skills.
The Advocate for the Partnership Board will understand the needs of adults and young people aged 16 to 17 with learning disabilitiesand/or autism with an up-to-date working knowledge of the relevant services offered in the district. This includes a nuanced understand of how support services connect at key transition points to support young people into adulthood. The Advocate will have experience working with VCSE services who provide support for adults with learning disabilities and or autism and be connected to the voices of people with lived experience.
The Wakefield Learning Disability and Autism Partnership Board meet four times a year and VCSE Advocates meet monthly for peer support, discussion and to share information. 8-12 hours per quarter is a rough guide but this may vary depending on meetings.
