Information about
Co-production with people with a learning disability from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities
Do you want to know more about how you can work more effectively with people with a learning disability from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and why this is important?
We know that health outcomes for people with a learning disability are much poorer than those for the rest of the population. People with a learning disability are more likely to die younger and are more likely to suffer from avoidable health issues. For people with a learning disability from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities these health inequalities are even worse.
Learning Disability England and the Race Equality Foundation are running an online webinar that can help to grow understanding and build confidence in how to engage more effectively with people with a learning disability from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and ensure that their needs are better reflected in the work that you do.
The webinar will be delivered by facilitators with lived experience of the barriers and challenges that people with a learning disability from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities can face in accessing good health care and with first hand experience of the difference that meaningfully co-produced activity can achieve.
What are the aims of the workshop?
To support those that attend to better understand:
- The health inequalities experienced by people with a learning disability from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic communities
- The reasons for these health inequalities
- Why we should all be working more closely in co-production with these communities
- How we can reach out to these communities
- How you might involve people from these communities better in the work that you do
Who is the workshop for?
The workshop is largely aimed at voluntary and community groups to help support their understanding and help to build their practice. However, the webinar is also open to anyone who would like to learn more.
