This exciting initiative is designed to connect skilled individuals with local charities in need of financial management support. Could you benefit?

The Abacus Project from our partner WYCAS offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact for both the organisations and the participants.

For Charities

WYCAS are seeking host organisations to partner with us in providing meaningful placements for skilled individuals.  These placements are fully supported by WYCAS, ensuring that your charity receives the financial expertise it needs, while also contributing to the personal and professional growth of the participants.  This will help you to update and maintain your financial records, so your trustees are better able to take financial decisions, and your annual accounts process runs smoothly.  Together, we can strengthen the third sector and build more resilient communities.

Participation in the project is free to the host charities. The host charities will need to give some time to supporting their volunteer and may offer to pay their expenses. If the charity is unable to do that, WYCAS will meet the volunteers expenses (subject to usual evidence of spend / claim procedure).

At present this project is only open to charities (whether registered or not) due to capacity. WYCAS may make exceptions, so please contact them if your organisation is interested.

For Potential Participants

Are you looking to build your financial skills and gain valuable experience while making a difference? The Abacus Project is an excellent opportunity for you.  WYCAS welcome individuals who are keen to develop their expertise in charity finance, with full support and training provided by WYCAS.  This project is particularly suited to those seeking new opportunities to grow their careers.  By participating, you’ll gain hands-on experience, ongoing mentorship, and a reference to help you advance in your professional journey. Participation is free.

Flexible Implementation

As WYCAS gather interest from both host organisations and participants, they’ll schedule placements and training to suit everyone involved.  This flexible approach ensures that they can meet the needs of all parties and maximise the impact of the project.

How to Get Involved

Whether you’re a charity in need of financial assistance or an individual ready to step into a new challenge, the Abacus Project is an opportunity not to be missed. We encourage you to reach out and learn more about how you can be a part of this transformative initiative.
