Our new magazine is designed to give anyone experiencing mental health challenges some useful information about moving more, the reasons why it could help, and ideas of local activities to try.

A warm welcome from the Nova Team. We're a local charity that supports Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise organisations in Wakefield District and as part of that, we work with community organisations offering activities and services that support mental health.

Moving More For My Mental Health is a new magazine where we've bought together information on some of these activities and services.

There is plenty of research linking the positive benefits of moving more on both our physical and mental health. But moving more doesn't have to mean spending hours in the gym or getting all sweaty dressed in lycra! There are so many other ways to move your body so we've taken care to include a variety of activities in this magazine - from local walking groups to fitness & self defence classes.

You can expect:

  • A map to find activities in your local area
  • Non-judgemental advice on why being active matters and how often to be active
  • Where to find advice if you struggle with being active
  • Activities offered by different organisations, split into: sport, walking and running activities, exercise classes, and green spaces
