Thank you to the organisations who have reached out to the Nova Team to express your concern. We know this news will feel deeply upsetting and worrying for many people, including our members who are worried about the impact on people they support.
Well Women Centre announced their immediate and permanent closure on Tuesday 3 February 2026. The charity had worked in Wakefield District for decades providing essential mental health, emotional and practical support in a women only space. In that time, they have changed the lives of many local people and had an incredible impact.
Well Women Centre has been a valued member of Nova for over a decade and its closure is a devastating loss to our sector.
This is an update about the closure for Voluntary, Communityand Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations working in the district who are looking for answers and information on where to direct people.
Understandably, the announcement has come as a shock. Developments have moved very quickly, and people are still processing what this means for them.
Trustees from the Well Women Centre sought guidance from Nova. Sadly, the organisation was already facing significant financial pressures by this stage, and Nova has been working closely with the trustees to provide support. We are now helping them to ensure that the charity is brought to a close in a careful, respectful and responsible way.
Commissioners are aware of the situation and are working urgently to make sure that all existing clients are contacted, supported, and helped to access appropriate alternative services wherever possible.
Right now, we’re not able to respond to individual requests for further information. We understand this may be frustrating, and we are grateful for your patience while partners work together to support those who are directly affected.

Women who require urgent support should contact their GP, NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency.
Nova is here to support community groups, charities and social enterprises working in Wakefield District. We will continue to use our platform to raise awareness of the significant pressures facing local organisations, advocate for change, and offer support to organisations.
