Funding Information

Cervical screening, also known as the smear test, is a procedure used to detect high risk human papillomavirus (HPV) on the cervix, which could potentially develop into cervical cancer if left untreated. The test is recommended for women between the ages of 25 and 64 in the UK, and it is typically offered every three years for women 25 to 49 years of age and every five years for women 50 to 64 years of age. Cervical screening has been declining in Wakefield for the past 5 years, and data shows that women and people with a cervix from vulnerable or Inclusion Health groups are even less likely to attend screening.

We are inviting applications from Voluntary, Community, and Social Enterprise organisations for grant funding to support vulnerable women and those with a cervix across Wakefield District to participate in cervical screening and to educate individuals about the health benefits associated with regular screening.

The successful organisation must be able to increase cervical screening uptake among vulnerable women and those with a cervix (including those experiencing substance misuse, homelessness, commercial sex work, and domestic violence) by providing tailored outreach, education, and support to access mobile screening services. The aim is to reduce barriers to screening and improve health outcomes for these groups within the next 12 months.

If your organisation has knowledge and experience of outreach and health promotion activities, as well as good understanding of working with vulnerable women and people with a cervix, or if you are already providing similar services out in the community, we would encourage you to apply.

We welcome partnership bids for this grant fund. If you are putting in a partnership bid, please make this clear in your application, identifying the lead organisation who will manage the funding and hold accountability, and ensure your project costings clearly identify the extent of funding that will go to each partner organisation.

This work is funded by Wakefield Council, and the funding distributed through the Third Sector Framework.
