Skills Bootcamp in Health and Social Care

The Health and Care Skills Bootcamp is designed to support local people to gain skills and knowledge to begin a fulfilling career in the health and care sector by combining classroom-based learning with real life shadowing opportunities in the heath and care sector.

Job seekers aged 19 plus living in Wakefield District can access this free 5 week course if they can commit to all of the programme. The start date is 26 January and the end date is 6 March with a guaranteed interview for employment week commencing 9 March.

Programme Overview

  • Three weeks of classroom learning. Learning will be carried out at Wakefield College and will cover essential knowledge, workplace behaviours, real life case studies, employability skills and employer presentations of working in health and social care.
  • Two weeks of workplace shadowing. Supervised, shadowing placements at our highly respected partner organisations. You will carry out one-to-two days at each setting, so you can see what it’s like working in real-world health and care environments.
  • VR simulation. Used throughout the programme to support learning in care settings and build interview confidence in a safe, immersive environment.
