CIC Kickstart: Setting Up Your Community Interest Company (December Workshop)

This workshop will look give you a good introduction to CICs, including the different models and the impact this structure can have on funding and governance.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the concept of the Community Interest Company structure and its original aims.
  • Recognise the differences between CIC models – limited by shares, limited by guarantee, small membership, large membership – and what they mean for funding and governance.
  • Understand what is required for CIC registration – governing document, application, the CIC36 form, asset lock, share dividends.
  • Understand how CICs are governed, including the role of paid and unpaid directors.
  • Learn about the online application process.
  • Recognise the reporting requirements for a CIC, including accounts and community benefit statement.
