The Big Help Out is a campaign to showcase how volunteering benefits both communities and the people who take part. The long-term aim is to get more people volunteering who traditionally don’t consider it.

The campaign will encourage a national day of volunteering on Monday 8 May 2023, the bank holiday of the coronation weekend.

The Big Help Out is a great opportunity for people to volunteer for the first time, coming together to lend a hand and support great causes. Nova also wants to take the time to celebrate and appreciate current volunteers, who work hard all year round to make a positive difference in Wakefield District.

How can volunteer-involving organisations take part?

In Wakefield District, volunteers play a vital role in building thriving communities and supporting local people. So this is a fab chance to make the most of the national conversation about volunteering. We encourage you get involved in a way that works for you and your organisation.

• Organise and register an event of your own for the national day of volunteering
• Use the publicity to highlight other longer-term volunteering opportunities, which you can list for free on the Volunteer>Wakefield website
• Get creative with the campaign logos, posters, social media posts and newsletter copy using the Big Help Out toolkit
• Share your stories of volunteering through the diverse roles available and how it enriches people’s lives. Feel free to tag us in any Twitter posts @Nova_WD so we can share!
