WDHCS's fund creates a new and exciting way of working that puts decision making about funding directly into the hands of local community organisations.

Who are Wakefield and District Health and Community Support (WDHCS)?

Our partner, WDHCS is the largest independent grant maker in the Wakefield District. This long established charity has made significant contributions to the funding landscape in the district through the VCSE sector.

Earlier this year WDHCS commissioned research ‘What’s up Wakefield District’ to provide a road map for future use of our resource, input and influence. The 3 areas of priority need identified from the research are:

Households on the Edge

Children and Young People

Connectivity

Households on the Edge is the term used to describe those households WDHCS think are not currently in crisis but could easily move into that category especially in the current cost of living crisis. In response WDHCS has established the Prosper Together Fund of up to £150,000 pa for 3 years.

What is the Prosper Together Fund?

This pilot Fund creates a new and exciting way of working that puts decision making about funding directly into the hands of local community organisations, the people who know their communities the best and are trusted to make the best decisions about how the funding should be used.

VCSE organisations were invited to submit an Expression of Interest to distribute this fund and 20 organisations responded. They will be allocated a grant of between £2,500 and £10,000 to support people in crisis in their communities that have no alternative access to support.

Who is delivering the Prosper Together Fund?

The list below shows the partner organisations involved initially. They are a mixture of place and need based partners who will also be funded to administer the process. They will establish a panel of decision makers to consider the referrals. Cash will not be distributed but vouchers or goods will be purchased to provide support identified.  People who benefit from this fund will also be signposted to Citizens Advice so potential additional support can be offered.
