For International Women's Day and beyond, let's all fully #EmbraceEquity.

Equity isn't just a nice-to-have, it's a must-have for the VCSE sector and beyond.

The aim of the International Women's Day 2023 #EmbraceEquity campaign theme is to get the world talking about why equal opportunities aren't enough. People start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action. Read more about this here.

So what does this mean for your organisation?

Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

From working within communities, VCSE organisations understand how important this approach is and the incredible impact it can have. Our members do brilliant work across Wakefield District to support and empower women, but there's more to do!

"Equality is giving everyone a shoe. Equity is giving everyone a shoe that fits."

Can you take steps to embrace equity?

Reflect on your work - how can you create positive change?

Equity is important to all sorts of VCSE work - from how you recruit volunteers to removing any barriers women face in accessing the support or activities your organisation offers. So think about how your organisation can:

  • Challenge gender stereotypes
  • Call out discrimination
  • Draw attention to bias
  • Create places and spaces where women thrive

Get involved with International Women's Day and share how you #EmbraceEquity. Find some helpful resources here.
