Me & Menopause is a district wide project empowering the women of Wakefield.

Why?

  • Menopause will affect or has already affected 178,724 women in our district during their lifetime (data from Wakefield Joint Strategic Needs Assessment, 2020). The majority of those who have experienced menopause (63%) said they had been negatively affected by it.
  • Wakefield has no widespread, regular access to Menopause specific information for our residents.
  • The Wakefield Resident Population Dashboard data from 2020 showed 34,812 women in Wakefield fell into the 40-54 years age bracket where perimenopause and menopause symptoms were most likely to occur.

The Me & Menopause project will address access to science-backed information, enable peer support, and ensure vital district-wide menopause help for local women.

How?

The project is a partnership between: Nova Wakefield District, the Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE) infrastructure organisation for Wakefield District; and MenoHealth, a national and international menopause organisation providing information, practical help and support to empower everyone to take control of their menopause and improve their health and mental wellbeing.

This exciting project recognises the importance of using organisations already embedded in their communities to deliver information and support to residents.

Me & Menopause sessions are delivered by 10 local voluntary and community organisation partners, trained by MenoHealth to deliver science-backed Menopause support sessions to local women.

The project has been funded for its first year by SWYT Community Mental Health and funding is being distributed through the Third Sector Framework. Ongoing funding will be based on a full evaluation report completed by Leeds Beckett University at the end of the project.

Who?

Below you'll find a list of the 10 trusted community partners, who have all completed a training and assessment process with MenoHealth and now form the Me & Menopause network.
