Why do Getting on Board offer fully funded places to people of colour? For a start only 8% of trustees are from Black and Asian backgrounds and only 2.9% of all trustees are women of colour.

Getting on Board want to change that. Workers from black, Asian, mixed race and minority ethnic backgrounds earn 16 per cent less compared to their white peers, and are therefore less likely to be able to self-fund a place.

Black and Asian people may not be aware that trusteeship is open to them or they may have tried to become trustees in the past and encountered barriers because of structural racism. Because the Charity Board Leadership Programme is intrinsically anti-racist and fully inclusive, they discuss these challenges and build strategies and support.

The Charity Board Leadership Programme is Getting on Board's flagship programme for aspiring trustees. This is a live interactive online course. You’ll join a small, supportive cohort, with no more than 20 delegates in total, from a wide range of backgrounds and sectors. You’ll network with multiple, senior charity sector experts.

The Charity Board Leadership Programme teaches you:

  • How charities work and what it means to be a charity board member
  • To identify and overcome common charity challenges
  • The essentials of charity governance
  • To navigate key resources like the Charity Commission website
  • To break down the process of applying to be a trustee into manageable steps
  • To match your professional skills and lived experience to a charity’s needs
  • To decipher the jargon of a trustee advert, watch out for red flags and how to adapt your CV to match the expectations of a charity board

The Charity Board Leadership Programme teaches you how to be an effective trustee but it also teaches you how to be an empowered trustee.

The deadline to apply for a fully-funded place is 24 March. APPLY HERE.
