Maddie is a real champion of WalkSafe and it's use by local communities, so we'd like to extend this invite to members for the launch event.
Wakefield Council, Wakefield BID and the Safer Together Partnership have come together to bring WalkSafe to Wakefield. There's an upcoming launch event taking place, Friday 7 June 2024.
At the launch event you'll be introduced to the benefits of creating a localised version of the nationally available app. You will hear from app found Emma Kay, and Alison Lowe, West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime (DMPC) Nominee, on the work to create a safer West Yorkshire.
WalkSafe helps give residents peace of mind when out and about, with a raft of safety features available in the app, including sharing journeys with trusted friends or alerting them if a friend doesn’t get home safe.
Making it local also links together businesses, groups, and organisations within 4km of Wakefield City Centre to create a network of safe spaces for users. It could be someone simply needs to charge their phone, but for others it could be getting help from a trained safe space.
The launch event will take place Friday 7 June 2024, 2.30-4pm at Treacy Hall, Wakefield Cathedral. Please see further details including the agenda on the attached invitation.
After the main event in Treacy Hall, you're invited to visit the Wakefield Safe Space Unit, where they will be promoting the app to residents.
Please RSVP to cityandtowns@wakefield.gov.uk by Friday 24 May and advise of any special access requirements.
"There are two main ways to help make the app a success.
1. Help to promote the app
As individuals, as a businesses or local groups we need your help to promote the app. Encourage people to download it and, most importantly, use it. We can provide a free communications pack to help you promote the app, featuring: posters and flyers, business cards, mirror stickers, and more. Just email: communitysafety@wakefield.gov.uk
2. Become a WalkSafe venue and be a safe place
We need businesses, community groups and venues to become a WalkSafe venue. There are a number of ways you can help provide a safe place.
To become a WalkSafe venue:
Anyone can become a venue. We just need simple details like opening times, what your safe place offers and for you to complete the training. Venues who hold Best Bar None, LSAVI or other accredited scheme are welcome to join."
