Local VCSE organisations know what their communities need. We've opened another funding opportunity where they can decide what to fund.

Does your organisation work in South Kirkby and/or Moorthorpe?

We've just opened another round of Building Healthy and Sustainable Communities funding that would be right up your street. Applications are welcome from VCSE organisations from across Wakefield District, you’ll just need to demonstrate existing ties to the delivery area ⬇️

What is the funding for?

Grants are available for VCSE organisations to support their involvement and active contribution to Building Healthy and Sustainable Communities. This is a programme building on the ‘Big Conversation’ with residents, using workshops and other forms of local engagement to:

  • Improve the health and wellbeing of residents
  • Connect with communities
  • Reduce health inequalities

The funding aims to support organisations to create capacity to:

  • Support the Building Healthy and Sustainable Communities Programme
  • Promote working together
  • Apply for funding that promotes improved health and wellbeing
  • Promote a more inclusive and collaborative way of working together to tackle health inequalities

What grants are available?

  • £500 - £5,000 for applications from a sole organisation
  • £3,000 - £10,000 for joint applications

What can it fund?

Here are some examples of what was funded in a recent round:

  • Core costs to continue delivering their services
  • Staff time and room hire for a specific project
  • Marketing materials for their organisations
  • Staff training and volunteer expenses

How can you apply?

Participatory grant making is very different to the application processes you may be used to and takes place in distinct stages.

  • There is a short Application Form that asks a few questions so that we can confirm your eligibility for this funding.
  • Once we have reviewed your application, you'll be invited to a support session where we'll help you to prepare for your pitch and provide more details.
  • You'll pitch your idea to the other applicants in a five minute presentation at the decision-making event. "The atmosphere was welcoming and lovely" according to an applicant at our last decision-making event, but if you're feeling nervous about presenting we encourage you to get in touch so we can discuss what support we can offer.
  • You and your fellow applicants will score each presentation and the results of what has been funded will be announced on the day.
  • We will run a process where successful applicants can gift back some of their grant so that more organisations can be supported - in our last round, this meant that an organisation who was not fully-funded for their grant received an additional £1,000 to put towards their important work!

"Considering how new this experience was for everyone involved, I believe it was an outstanding success, and I was genuinely humbled by the impressive work undertaken by all in the room" - an applicant from our last round of funding

Before applying for this funding, it’s important that you understand the process and what’s expected of applicants. Scott Copeland, our Contracts & Grants Manager, will talk you through it in more detail.
