Wakefield & District Society for Deaf People are running a project aimed at improving the well-being of Deaf BSL people by providing support to access activities they would normally be excluded from.

akefield & District Society for Deaf People have received a Live Well Wakefield grant from Nova Wakefield District to provide communication support for Deaf BSL people to access various activities.

Wakefield & District Society for Deaf People have a small team of volunteers, and the aim of the project is to improve wellbeing. They will consider supporting any activity you wish to participate in if it will improve your wellbeing.

If your language is British Sign Language and you need support to join in an activity that you will normally experience communication barriers with then we can help.

For example, you may want to lose weight, but Slimming World or Weight Watchers don’t provide BSL interpreters, or you may wish to join the gym but would have difficulty with the induction. You may fancy joining a walking group or an art class. Perhaps you need confidence to join a group? This list is not exhaustive and Wakefield & District Society for Deaf People will consider all requests.
