What is Our Year?
Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 will be a 366-day celebration of culture, creativity and connection. From large-scale festivals and events to community activities, Our Year will offer something for everyone, everywhere across our district.
It aims to:
- Improve the lives of people and communities across the district
- Increase happiness with local areas as a place to live across our communities
- Provide our communities with access to quality creative skills and learning opportunities
Be an Our Year Community Partner
Wakefield Council are looking for community organisations to support the Our Year Programme through hosting or delivering activity, or connecting their communities to the wider programme.
What will you get?
- Promotion of your events and activities in the Our Year programme and marketing
- Access to the Our Year Community Travel bursary scheme
- Support to bid for grant funding to help deliver cultural and creative activity in your community
- Support to help plan your event
- Invitation for up to two representatives to all Our Year VIP stakeholder events (SAVE THE DATE - Our launch event takes place on Thursday 12th October from 5pm to 7pm)
- Logo branding on the Our Year website as a Community Partner
- Our Year community pack (including Our Year bunting)
Wakefield Council are seeking support from Community Partners to:
- Be advocates for Our Year and help promote the wider programme - providing space for Our Year marketing material
- The potential to host some Our Year events and activities
- Encourage members to attend our events and apply for travel bursaries to enable this
Themes to inspire you
- Crossings and Gateways - an 18-month programme (from now until the end of 2024) with the ambition to support at least one public art project in each of the 21 wards across the district
- Nurture and Nourish - recognising and celebrating our district’s strong food heritage through growing, cooking, sharing
- Our Stories - exploring and celebrating our district’s heritage and traditions- capturing and re-imagining stories as told by local people
- Roving Festival- celebrating the breadth of Wakefield’s open spaces, encouraging residents and visitors to connect with the outdoors
- Key to the North - an aspirational series of talks and events shining a light on heritage and popular culture
What events and anniversaries are on your calendar?
Do you already have an event planned? Let the Council know! These might include car events, galas, garden open days, kite festivals, scarecrow festivals, Christmas fetes, craft days and more!
